The Carnegie Learning Math Series: Course 1-3 is a three-year sequence that includes textbooks and MATHia Software. The Math Series provides a complete set of research-based educational materials to inspire all middle school students to master mathematical concepts and skills. The instructional materials align to the Common Core State Standards, Grades 6-8, which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. Carnegie Learning Math’s pedagogical approach focuses on how students think, learn, and apply new knowledge in mathematics and empowers them to take ownership of their learning. The Carnegie Learning Math Series makes extensive use of models – real-world situations, manipulatives, graphs, and diagrams, among others – to help students see the connections between different topics. In addition, formative assessments are used as a reflective process that promotes student learning. It is the part of instruction designed to provide crucial feedback for the teacher and their students – to diagnose, not to assign a grade. The Carnegie Learning Math Series provides ongoing opportunities for students to be active participants in the learning process by expressing their knowledge and ideas to the teacher, to their peers, and themselves. This approach is consistent with the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
