BHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Advisors:
Ms. Meryl Mendolla & Mr. Corey Woodring

FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. It is a professional student organization that is available in a majority of schools across America.

FBLA has three main aspects;

Social- We get to know each other and have lots of fun
Professional- Where we learn new things about business, attend conferences, and work on job skills.
Community Service- Where we give back something to the community that has given us so much.

What does FBLA do?

Promote competent, aggressive business leadership.
Understand American business enterprise
Establish career goals.
Encourage scholarship.
Promote sound financial management.
Develop character and self-confidence.
Facilitate transition from school to work.

To accomplish these goals, FBLA-PBL holds conferences and seminars; sponsors a competitive awards program; produces national publications; and provides scholarships, programs, and other services for its members.

Conferences and Seminars: FBLA-PBL sponsors conferences and seminars for members and advisers including the National Leadership Conference, five National Fall Leadership Conferences, and a training program for state and local officers and their advisers.

Awards: FBLA-PBL's National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in business-and career-related skills. By participating in the competitive events at the state and national levels, students gain practical experience in goal setting, planning, and plan implementation.

Publications: FBLA-PBL produces several practical and informative publications for its membership, including Tomorrow's Business Leader, PBL Business Leader, FBLA Advisers' Hotline, The Professional Edge, and The Middle Connection.

Scholarships and Programs: Members can gain recognition, experience, and cash awards by participating in a variety of partnership programs including fundraisers, educational programs, and scholarships. Opportunities include Operation Enterprise's leadership and career skills
seminars, Otis Spunkmeyer's business operation program, and Johnson & Wales University's full and partial scholarships for business degrees in hospitality.

What's in it for me?

We all want to know that don't we? Besides learning new skills that you can use over your lifetime, you will make new friends, travel, attend social gatherings, and discover things about yourself that you never knew. In addition, being a member of FBLA comes with the following perks.

Attend two to four conferences a year.
Receive a suitable for-framing wallet membership card.
Apply for FBLA scholarships in high school.
Run for state or national office
Compete in regional and state events; if you win at state, it's off to nationals.
Not only that, but FBLA is a respected organization worldwide. Potential employers are looking for people who have been dedicated to a group such as FBLA. It looks great on a resume.

How is the chapter funded?

We hold fundraisers all year long. Our goal is make sure students who want to attend conferences are never held back by financial constraints. Everyone is welcome to be a part of all fundraising activities. They are a fun part of the organization.
