Mrs. Maria Calhoun
Ms. Maria Calhoun, Ed.S., is proud to serve as a Supervisor of Secondary Education (7-12) for Belleville Public Schools. Ms. Calhoun began her career in 2007 as a 6th and 7th grade English and Language Arts teacher (ELA). In 2009, Ms. Calhoun joined the Belleville team of dedicated educators teaching 8th grade ELA. While in Belleville, Ms. Calhoun taught ELA at several grade levels: 7th grade Academic, 8th grade Academic, 8th grade Honors, 8th grade Inclusion, 10th grade Academic, and 10th grade Resource. Additionally, Ms. Calhoun worked as an Intervention and Referral Services chairperson; soccer coach, Calliope Literary Magazine advisor; Operation Smile advisor; and Builder’s Club advisor. Ms. Calhoun also teaches Writing as an adjunct professor at Montclair State University in the First-Year-Writing Department.
Ms. Calhoun earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University in Secondary Education, English, and Communications in 2007. In 2011, she earned her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Scranton. In 2019, Ms. Calhoun completed an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership. She also completed training from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Data Wise Leadership and is currently working on her Doctorate of Educational Leadership (Ed.D) from University of the Cumberlands.
Ms. Calhoun loves being an educator because there’s nothing better than watching students achieve their goals and become successful, established adults. She truly believes that all students are capable of realizing their goals with guidance and unwavering support from their parents and teachers. Our children succeed when schools and parents communicate and function as a family unit. During Ms. Calhoun’s career, Belleville Schools District has progressed exponentially to become a technologically advanced district that works with families to help students realize their full potential. Ms. Calhoun is excited to work with the Belleville team of administrators and educators in continuing to help our students realize and achieve their full potential as 21st-century leaders.
Ms. Calhoun is married and has two young boys (5 and 3). When she’s not running around with her kids, she enjoys reading Sci-Fi and Romance novels, playing fantasy sports, and catching up on superhero movies (a favorite genre in the Calhoun household).
