A resident of Belleville for 24 years, Nelson Barrera is in his second term as trustee serving on the Belleville Board of Education.
Mr. Barrera has always held the education of young lives to high importance having raised his four daughters in Belleville. Seeing them completing school and finding their way in the world made him feel that being part of the team that made that possible was his way of giving back to the community while helping the district continue to evolve and reach its full potential.
Mr. Barrera is currently a financial professional with New York Life and has spent countless hours helping his clients plan for their future, particularly that of education. His experience has provided him the opportunity to be a strategic planner, effective communicator, and strategist, providing him an ability to make the best decisions for his clients.
As a trustee, Mr. Barrera brings his experience to the district to make informed decisions about the educational needs of all the students and staff. While continuing to serve on the Board, Mr. Barrera’s major goals are to ensure that the district continues to make smart investments; grow the current programs the district has in place, and see the completion of the modernization project for all school buildings.
During his spare time, Mr. Barrera is a member of the Suburban Essex County Chamber of Commerce and Bucco’s Rising Stars. He also participates in many presentations on behalf of New York Life to various businesses and municipalities in the area, as well as conducts financial workshops at local libraries. However, it is the time he spends with his wife and children creating memories that he enjoys most of all.
