Dear Belleville Public Schools Community,

As you are aware, a Solar Eclipse is predicted for this Monday afternoon, April 8, 2024, with the midpoint occurring at approximately 3:20 pm. In conjunction with the previous information I had sent you, please be reminded of the following:

• All Belleville Public Schools will follow regular dismissal times.

• There will be no outside activities for students from 1:15 pm until the remainder of the school day.

• Teachers, administrators, and staff will remind students to remain safe by not looking directly at the sun during the eclipse. It is appreciated and expected that parents also speak to their children about not looking at the sun during this time.

• Science lessons regarding safety and the eclipse phenomena will be incorporated into daily lessons.

• Sport practices will start no earlier than 5:00 pm, and direction for all outside sport activities will resume under the advisement of the director of athletics.

If you have any concerns with your child in consideration of the eclipse Monday afternoon, you may consider picking him/her up from school prior to the eclipse event occurring. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly in my office at extension 1022.
